english blogger

well I had to make up something for the English blog so here we go. Well today I am the English blogger, we had to go to this site named Remind2.me. we had to write about what happened when we where kids. We have to send it before we graduate.  I just hope that everyone gets it when they are seniors. All of the seventh graders will more than likely forget it.

Blogger

Today in English7, we started of with printing of our “Letter to Future Self.” Then we all lined up and sang our ABC’s for our ABC Book. After that, we had a fun day and watched various videos. It was our last day of full class, so we had fun.

We did many projects in English 7. We wrote about what we want to be when we are older, where we want to go, things like that! It was a productive year. We learned how to identify things like compound sentences and simple sentences too.

Mrs.Morrow is teaching the class and talking about what were doing to day.

Miss Vandersnick refused me getting a picture taken but she finely gave in.  She helps a lot in class.
Even though it doesn't look like it she is like a vulture watching her pray when she teaches.

kids are working.

As soon as walked in to my english class Mrs. Morrow told us to write in our writers notebook about how tv could be better. Kolby and Lane had a good paragraph about how it could be better. After that we did our DGP sentences we watched a video about how to do a interview correctly.

Today in English we did a lot. First we did our daily writers notebook writing. We had to write about someone that was dead and we would like to ask 3 questions. We then we did DGP 15 and recognized  the subject and verb in a sentence.
After that we had a No Red Ink Quiz. The quiz was over FanBoys and where and when to place commas, semicolons, and periods.
Finally we went over a website http://transom.org/2013/shout-out-a-kids-guide-to-recording-stories/.  It went over how to do a good interview with someone. For a project we have to interview someone who inspires us. We were then given time to work on questions for the interview.

We walked into class and sat down for class and we went over our travel destination writing project. Then after that we went over our next project it is who our inspiration is and we have to think over this long Easter break about who will be your inspiration and maybe even get started. Have a great Easter.

Newly Published Authors at OHS

Several OHS 7th Grade students have recently joined the ranks of published authors as they successfully authored, submitted, and were accepted for publishing on Apple's iBooks Store.

Their original books, authored in 7th grade English class, were the result of a nonfiction writing project entitled "My B-side".  Students chose a personal passion, hobby, or talent-- something that was the "flip-side" to their well-known personality-- and wrote about it. The objective was informative/technical writing, and by choosing a topic that students personally knew so well, they could focus on communicating this real life skill/talent/or interest through their first-person writing, rather than external research.

Students worked through the writing process to compose their drafts and utilized digital tools such as Google Docs, Pages, and iPad apps throughout the process. Each was also encouraged to create original media to accompany the writing. Many students created videos, animations, illustrations, photography, and widgets to bring their writing to life once assembled in iBooks Author.

Out of all the 7th grade authors over a dozen were selected to submit for publishing on Apple's iBooks Store.  Students could choose whether to submit via Mrs. Morrow's Books account under their own name as author or if they wanted to go through the process of creating their own Books account for the iTunes Store.

While we are still waiting on approval on several books, the following titles have already successfully been approved and are live on iTunes!

Congratulations to each and every OHS 7th grade English student... you ARE AUTHORS!

5, 4, 3, 2, 1, BEEP! I rushed out of math class and out of the building to Mod 2 for English. When I arrived, our class did a daily warm up, revising a sentence that Mrs. Morrow purposely wrote wrong so we could fix it. Then we did DGP. After DGP we watched a video about visual aids because we are doing a visual aid for our project this week. The video told us what to do and what not to do in a visual aid. After we watched the short video, Mrs. Morrow told us to review our own paper that we wrote about our place. Then she separated us. The students who had their rough drafts done got to peer review with a partner. The students who didn't have theirs done had to go and finish them. After finding a few mistakes on my friend's paper, I went back to my own computer and fixed the mistakes that my other friend found. When everybody was done with peer review, we got to work on our visual aids. I was just getting started on it when the bell beeped loudly. I collected my things and walked out of English class, wishing that it would have lasted a little bit longer.

“ I’m going to hate writing that draft!” I thought. When Kolby and I got to class, Mrs. Morrow said to sit down and write in your notebook. The topic was, what you think about Nesa testing. After that we did DGP. Today’s was finding the subject and verbs.

Then we listened to Mrs. Morrow read Natalies Broderson’s “ Where In The World” essay on the Bahamas. It was very discriptive and fluent. The funny thing is is that I am doing the Bahamas too. So I got some ideas from her essay.

The final thing we did was work on our draft. Most of the kids didn’t get it done in class, so we had some homework. If you didn’t have it done, you would have to go to the other side of the mod and probably lose points, because it was late.

That is all that we did for today in English.

Daily Blogger March 23rd

We were working on today's assignment when all of a sudden, the bell rang. We were all relieved to leave and to go the next class, English 7.
As soon as we got to class, our teachers greeted us with our daily announcements. Then a couple of students passed out our writer's notebooks. Our writing objective today was what kind of music we like to listen to. After a few minutes, if you want to share what you wrote, you have the chance to do so by raising your hand.
Daily Grammar Practice was next on our to-do list today. Today, we identified all of the words in out sentence and put them into there categories. Our DGP lasts us a week.
Finally, we got to the important part of our day. This past week, we have been working on an essay about some where we would like to travel, but have not ever been there before. Next week, we will read aloud our essay in speech form. Today, we were still working on researching our projects. We have to have at least three resources, an encyclopedia, a book, and a website. Everyone was working hard on getting research done, because we don't have class tomorrow.
Then, all of a sudden, we heard that painfully familiar ringing noise. Then everyone was out the door and on to the next class. I think we all have homework.

English Class: Period Two

I heard the bell ring, and I hurried out of the Science room, so I could meet up with my walk-to-English Class buddies, Makayla and Jace. I met up with them and talked about what our Math assignment was, which wasn't hard at all. We walked into the English room, and it was cold in there, as always. But this time, it was colder inside, than it was outside. Well, it felt like that anyway. We sat down and the second bell rang. Mrs. Morrow had Jace pass out the notebooks, and as always, came to me and threw mine at my face! I wasn't ready for it though, because I was turned around talking to Makayla. Our prompt today was," Where in the World!" We had to brainstorm some ideas for where we haven't been, but would like to go. My ideas were Iwo Jima/Marine Corps War Memorial in Washington D.C., a Husker football game, or anywhere where it was warm. Mainly Florida. Afterwards, we had Announcements. There wasn't anything for JH, just a reminder about an assembly  next Monday. Then we went over our tests. Yeah, the grades weren't very good. There were a few people who did good, but not many. Lastly, we had about ten minutes at the end of class to look up some information about our Where in the World topic. I chose Iwo Jima/Marine Corps War Memorial. We just have to list three or more things that you can see at your topic. And of course, I took pics! You have to scroll down to see all of them. But that is just about all we did in English7 today!

The bell rung again to signal it was time to go to English class. The morning air was crisp, clear and rather cold, but the cold March weather would not ruin our day in English. When we finally made it to Mod 2 for class, we started the day of with a Warp-Up. After we finished sharing our ideas on verbs and subjects, we began working on our DGP or Daily Grammar Practice for the eleventh week. Not long after we started DGP, we were finished and moving on. We checked over yesterday’s assignment and graded it in class.  We then started learning about special subjects and collective nouns, and after learning all we need to know about special subjects, we began our assignment that didn’t take to long to complete. We went over it in class and handed it in. We then went over compound sentences. It was a nice day in English class, and we don’t have that much homework for Wednesday.

As the bell rang we started English class as the class started we went right into our Writers Notebook. Our topic was SPRING BREAK. After that, We started DGP- week 11 we had to Identify sentence parts including simple and complete subject, simple and complete predicate.  After that we had to locate problems in a sentence Subject and Verbs on the board. After we finished that, they handed out the Unit 9: Subject-Verb Agreement worksheet so we can correct them if we want. As time pass they handed out our Assignment for today it was Lesson 51 locating the subject. Then when the bell rang we got up and ran to the door to the snowy chili day.

Daily Blogger 3/2/15

The bell rang on this chilly monday morning. English was just about to start as the writers notebooks were passed out. Mrs. Nordby gave us our topic; If I was in charge of the of the St. Patricks Day Parade. As the stories were shared the new Daily Grammar Practices were handed out. The sentence for this week is: had my eyes deceived me. After DPG we used our English text books for the first time. We are studying Subject-Verb agreements which is Unit 16.
Mrs. Nordby started presenting off the board stating that verbs do not end in s.

Our worksheet assignments were handed out after we finished the Subject-Verb agreement presentation. Most people completed the simple assignment during class. Those who didn't test out on the last worksheet had to do the next one those who did played grammar pop on the iPads.

As the 3rd period class walked into mod 2, there was chatter about state wrestling. We opened up our writer’s notebook and started writing about what ever we wanted.  If you would have walked into the mod at that point you would have seen many students working hard. Then you would have heard classical music and pencils scratching on paper. Afterwards, we shared what we wrote about. There were writings of made up stories, weekend plans, random parts of speech, dreams, and past writings.
Then, we worked on Daily Grammar Practice of DGP. This week’s sentence was “There was no other like it in any of the stores, and she had turned all of them inside out.” Today we diagramed the sentence on two base lines that were connected together with a conjunction. Next we handed the DGP sheet in and passed our writer’s notebooks down to the end of the table for Mrs. Nordby to pick up.
Next, we handed in our “Why I Want to go to College” essays. Before you hand your essay in make sure that your writing is in 14pt. font, double space, and in Times New Roman text style. Then we printed out the essays and stapled them to our green sheet. Once you have done this, post it on your blog.

For the rest of the period, we got to play the game “Grammar Pop” on the iPads. Then the bell then rang signaling us to leave the mod.

The day begins with the bell ringing as we all walk in to class. First thing we do is open our writers notebook. The topic today is to write about different way to say“It’s Cold.” But we can’t say “It’s Cold.” Mrs. Morrow and Mrs. Nordby give us two minutes to write something down. I wrote it’s freezing. Mrs. Morrow calls on people to share what they wrote. Some students say “It’s like touching Oalf’s hands. Once thats down its time to do DGP.  When we all have that done we start talking about our homework that we had to do yesterday. We had to ask someone about why going to college is good thing. We share why its good to go to college. Once we are done doing that its time to start a our first draft for our writing. The writing is about going to college. We finish the class working on this.

Daily Blogger 2-17-15

Today, in our writer’s notebooks we wrote about people that have inspired us to go to college. We are working on an essay about, “Why I want to go to College.” We have an essay map to help us outline our essay. For Homework we have to talk to somebody that had gone to college or is in college, and it doesn’t matter whether they have graduated. We must ask them about why its important to go to college. We read examples of “Why I want to go to College”, essays, so we can create a “hook” or lead. You can use a question, quote, interesting fact, advice from someone, early memories, dreams, or the description of a scene. By tomorrow we must have our first paragraph done by class time tomorrow.

The bell rang and many children bustled into modular #3, shivering from the cold. Samantha and I (Sierra) handed out writer’s notebooks. First, we wrote in our writer’s notebooks, we wrote out the date and started writing about what we wanted to be when we grew up. Our answers ranged from being a vet to being a rancher. Then, Mrs. Nordby handed out Week #10’s DGP. The sentence is:

there was no other like it in any of the stores and she had turned all of them inside out

The whole class participated together to identify the parts of speech, here’s what the 3rd period class came up with:

there (adv.) was (lv/past) no (adj.) other (ind. pro.) like (prep.) it (3 obj. pro.) in (prep.) any (ind. pro.) of (prep.) the (art.) stores (noun) and (cc) she (3rd nom pronoun) had (hv) turned (av/help) all (ind. pro.) of (prep.) them (3rd obj. pro.) inside out (adv.)

Then, Mrs. Nordby explained that we would be writing a four paragraph essay on what we want to be when we grow up. Then she surprised us, she announced some of us would be entered in a Nebraska writing project contest. If you won 1st you would earn $2,000 for college.

Afterwards we brainstormed on our essay map. The main idea for our essay map is: Goals for my future. The 2nd main idea is: How education (school) will help me reach my goals. And the 3rd main idea is optional. The introduction is: What I want to do when I grow up? The sheet needs to be done by the end of class today. Mrs. Nordby then explained that tomorrow we would start writing our essay. So, tomorrow be ready to start writing!

The bell rang loudly and we started towards 3rd period- English. For our warm-up, Mrs. Morrow and Mrs. Nordby gave us a notecard and told us to write on it what we think we do well, what we could improve on, and what we learned since Christmas Break. We are doing this because there is Parent Teacher Conferences tomorrow and they want to discuss these things with our parents.

Next, we got our B-side book checklists and grading scales. Our books are due on Friday.
For the rest of the time, we worked on our B-side books. We have been working on these for a long time, and I think they will turn out well for the I Book store.

The bell sounded again, and we headed off towards 4th period. It was a busy day in English.

As I walked into the class, the teachers were setting up for class. First we started with our writer's notebooks and made our own version of "Roses are Red." Then we did DGP, as usual. Then, Mrs. Morrow showed us how to use widgets to make our books more interesting. She showed us how to use mask, interactive image, popover, and alpha button widgets. You are required to us a least one gallery and one review widget.

Today is Monday, February 9, 2015. When we walked into class we started to do a warm up in our notebooks.  We finished the poem Roses are Red in our own words.  We had some really funny responses. Like the following:
 Roses are red
Violets are blue
I love trains
As much as I love you

After warm up we completed DGP.  Our new sentence for the week is the following:
The master had retired to rest before we came in.

After DGP we handed back our writers notebook and started to talk about our b-side books. We learned about customized tool bar on I-book author
-Alpha
-mask
-images/movies
Drag/drop
-       Photo gallery at least one photo in your book
-       Widgets
Popover interactive image charts review at least one

As the bell rang, the 3rd period English class scurried over to mod 2 for Friday’s class. When we entered class, helpful students passed out our writer’s notebooks for Free Write Friday. After sharing, we diagrammed our DGP 8 sentence. The sentence is, “When you throw a rock, it will speed on the fastest course to the bottom of the water.
After our DGP, Mrs. Morrow explained how we will be given class time to work on our B-Side Book and that we need to have our final draft copy and pasted to I-Book’s Author by Monday. Also, the due date for our B-Side book was moved from Wednesday to Thursday.
Mrs. Morrow showed us different ways that we could make our books high quality and unique. She stated that pictures taken by the writer for the writer make it a more professional presentation. She showed how to add photos and videos to our book to bring it to life.
As class came to an end, Mrs. Morrow and Mrs. Nordby gave us time to work on the projects they presented during class.
The bell rang out and permeated throughout the room. The students packed up their stuff to continue their Friday school adventure.
